Will All Phones be Touchscreen in the Future?

There’s no mistaking that mobile phone technology has come a long way over the last few years, and it would make sense to expect that this trend will only continue. When mobile phones were first used, a handset that had the popular game Snake II on it was considered superior. A few years down the line, devices weren’t worth their salt unless they had cameras – and now, mobiles are packed with all kinds of features, from e-mail to web browsing and music-playing capabilities.

The newest trend of many seems to be the touchscreen. When Apple’s iconic iPhone was released, touchscreen technology exploded into popularity thanks to the handset’s sensitive, innovative design. Offering a far easier and more enjoyable mobile experience, users could simply shake, tap and sweep their way through their phone’s features, whether heading to their phone book to look up a contact or accessing one of the thousands of apps available, literally, at their fingertips.

Now touchscreen technology is becoming more common in handsets by other manufacturers, including Nokia, Samsung and LG. Although Apple has attempted to trap the technology for itself, including patenting a certain function that allows users to use two fingers on the screen at once, it looks like its rivals are catching up. Touchscreen is becoming one of the staple functions that users expect their mobile phones to have. It’s easier, quicker and more enjoyable to use, and means that you can get to your chosen feature in less than a second, rather than having to manually scroll through all the options before getting to the right one with you. It seems to be a perfectly natural progression in the world of mobile phone technology, and one that has been welcomed by users in all markets.

Touchscreen mobile phones are still on the rise, but there’s a hungry market out there of users eager to make the most of their device’s efficiency. It’s also, frequently, a fun extra to show off to your friends. After all, touchscreen technology is still relatively new, meaning that some of its functionality – like the iPhone’s ability to ‘pinch’ things on the screen – is fairly impressive.

Whether all phones will be touchscreen in the future or a new technology will come along beforehand is unclear, but it’s certain that touchscreen phones are sought after – just make sure you get a good deal on SIM cards to offset that initial expense!
